End of Year Community Events

This week KG-B has been full of activity with engagements related to our current unit of inquiry focused on community events. Each child in our class took action to plan and put on several events for communities within our school.

Our first community event this week was a Dance Along and Dress-Up Party.  In order to prepare the room, the students took care of moving all the tables and putting up decorations.

The students made posters and invitations to invite all of kindergarten and grade 1. Nearly everyone showed up, so it was a packed classroom! The students organized and served treats, and even chose a couple students to be DJs! This event was a huge hit. I'm sure you all heard lots about it at home.

Our next community event was organized by Storm, Henok, Tesanda, Maria and Pietro. They put on a "Sports Day" for kindergarten and provided four different stations: golf, basketball, exercises and soccer. Each student played a different role in teaching sports. Once again, much fun was had by all.

Yesterday was a huge event organized by all of KG. We spent the week meeting in different groups to prepare a movie party with Mekdela kindergarten students. Some of the roles and responsibilities students had were posters, event set-up, ticket making, welcoming dance and choosing of the short film. This event took place in the Upper Commons and nearly 300 children filled the room. It was a huge success and our KG students learned a lot about working together and planning for such a big event.

Finally, our week ended in an event most of you were able to attend: The Music Showcase. What a great display of learning. As I hope you were also able to recognize, the growth in confidence this year has been quite impressive. We hope you enjoyed listening to our music!

Next week we will partake in a few other events, such as Play Day and closing assemblies. I'm sorry to be missing such fun, but I know your children will have an amazing time with Winta.

I want to end this post by saying what a pleasure it has been to work with both you and your children. My first year at ICS has been a wonderful experience, and I owe so much of this to your support, as well as the love you show your children...which then spills into the classroom. I very much look forward to seeing you next year (please make sure your children come visit!), and for those of you leaving, I wish you all the best. I know great things are in store for all of your children and I hope that the love of learning they have shown me this year continues to grow.
